So, you want to move to Asheville? You’re not alone. With a bright blue backdrop…
The weather is warm, the birds are singing, and most experts agree: the great outdoors is a great place to be right now. Whether you live in Asheville or are thinking of moving here, you might be looking for fun things to do outside. Here’s our list of amazing things to do in and around our beautiful city. Grab your sunglasses and head out there!
Picnic in the Park
Many Asheville restaurants are open once again, and grabbing take-out from them is a great way to support their business. Take your to-go meal to one of Asheville’s many beautiful parks. Try Bent Creek River Park for a lovely view of the French Broad River or try Carrier Park for walking trails and tons of activities.
Spend a Day in the Biltmore Gardens & Grounds
The flowers are in bloom at the Biltmore! From azaleas to veronica (and all the linden, medinilla, ninebark, and orchids in between) you just won’t find a better place to experience this much floral beauty in one place. And with more than 8,000 acres, you can hike, bike, and simply meander to your heart’s content, taking in the amazing views, lush green forests, open meadows, and riverside scenery.
Take a Short Hike to 360° Views in Craggy Gardens
Drive north from Asheville along the Blue Ridge Parkway and stop when you get to milepost 364. There you’ll find Craggy Gardens with some of the most breathtaking views the Parkway has to offer. Take a short hike (about 20 minutes) to the summit of Craggy Pinnacle and not only will you get to experience the lively colors of rhododendron, birch trees, and wildflowers, you’ll also be greeted with mountain views in every direction — stretching out to Tennessee in the west and central North Carolina to the east.
Try an Easy Mountain Bike Ride in Bent Creek
The systems of trails in Bent Creek offer many ways to build your confidence when developing your mountain biking skills (after all, Asheville is a prime mountain biking destination). Just 15 minutes from Asheville, Bent Creek Experimental Forest is just outside of the Pisgah National Forest and is an excellent (and popular!) place to ride.
